My blog benefactor just gave me access to some color-coded bar graphs of my blog statistics. He observed that whereas most of the traffic on his own blog peaks around noon and after-work hours, my readers tend to visit my blog first thing in the morning, 8-10am. On a summary by month, June and July were nearly equal in hits, very modest, averaging a little more than 400 hits/day. August doubled at 827 hits daily, September peaked out at 1125 hits daily, and October (I know we’re not at the end of the month yet, but almost), it slowed to 853 hits a day so far. Total hits by month are as follows (and this is more accurate than the hit counter cuz the hit counter only starts counting when it was installed, on 9-8-05):
June – 12,585
July – 12,822
August – 25,648
September – 33,768
October – 23,889
I am fascinated. I wonder what was going on in September that made my blog so interesting. And what happened in October that made people lose interest. I didn’t even have as many entries in September as I normally did, because I was in Cancun for the entire last week and couldn’t log on.
So if any of you care to give me some insight, let me know what you like to do when you’re reading my blog. Are you getting to your first cup of coffee while surfing the net? Are you just settling into work and warming up your desktop so you decide to see what’s going on with me? Do you figure I post throughout the day so it’s just easier to check first thing in the morning to see what I did all the day before? Are you checking less in October because the photos slow down the loading? Am I somehow whinier and more annoying in October than I was in September? (Boy, maybe I’m inviting feedback comments I don’t want to hear. Haha.)
“So if any of you care to give me some insight, let me know what you like to do when you’re reading my blog.”
i like to dim the lights low to set the mood. the soulful crooning of barry white will heard softening the monotony of everyday life. i feel myself slip away from the confines of my larger-than-usual-yet-still-too-small cube and i light dozens of candles that surround me. the warm glow of the candles flicker in tune with the music now gearing up in its chorus. i’m bathed in the glow of my laptop screen and i wait with bated breath as “cindy’s world” loads up.
as the page loads, i open up a bottle of red wine and let the smells of the luxrious red permeate through the air.
the mood is set and i sip on my glass of claret and i peruse your blog, whispering ever so softly the words that you write for me to read.
errr, uh…or i just eat a donut while reading your blog.
I know you wrote “Barry White,” but when I picture your described scene, I keep hearing the “chicka-bow, chicka-bow-wow” synthetic beat of those 70s pornos.
Hmm, I used to read your blog more often in September not because of the content, but probably because I was less busy with schoolwork.
I actually tend to check your blog at night. That’s when I do most of my computer activities.
When I read your blog, I’m usually either just reading your blog, or checking out my friends’ blogs at the same time.
Yeah, I’m really just waiting for my other computer to load while I peruse blogs and eat my breakfast in the morning.
I’m not really sure if I hit your site more in Sept vs. any other month, but I think the hits have a lot to do with the frequency of updates. You supply new reading material throughout the day and since it was less in Sept, maybe you lost a couple readers for Oct…not sure…Anyway, you’re a wonderful writer and you stories are often personal (and interesting) and informative (esp all your posts on working out).
Have a great weekend!
🙂
I was hoping for more feedback, but I guess I’m not gonna get any. *sniffle* Thanks, Wilco, Mark and Tina.
You have one more loyal reader here…
Look, I´m even commenting while I´m elsewhere! *wink*
I check out on yours on average 2-3 times per day, knowing you post quite frequently (and whenever you like). I do a lot of other things at the same time when checking on your sites at work or at home.
My speculation on the readerships aspect would be people are more attracted to a drama or story in general, which makes them wanting to following up your posts regularly.
Seeing the fact that the story here has moved on to another phase, maybe there´s a transition phase for changing certain readers (with new readers coming too at the same time)?
But hey, I find that the number of your postings are dropping. You better do something about this, or else… Wait….how can I threaten the site of someone that I read frequently? *lol*
There´s another saying in chinese, there will be fragrance when there´s flower. Meaning, good reads will attract readers regardless of the story. 🙂
Jade! You’re alive!
I thought about the drama angle, too. But I can’t bring myself to go looking for drama when I’ve FINALLY found some peace, just so I can entertain anonymous readers. I hope that the regulars are just happy for me that I can sleep and eat once again. (…and eat…and eat…)
You’re right, my posts are dropping. I’m trying to be better about that. I really am! I even blogged from Mr. W’s laptop at his house on Sunday morning 10-30-05!
