I’m at the end of my rope. I called tech support for my internet service, and we figured out it’s not a problem with the internet service or the modem, because internet works when it’s hard-wired to my computer directly without the router. When I plug the router back in, internet sort of flickers but never loads, and the router flickers along with it. Argh! I am so behind in my gmail from not having access to it at work or at home. I called tech support for the router, but apparently, you have to have registered the Netgear router for them to assist you. Stupid company.
Anyone have any ideas? Any techies who can offer his/her 2 cents?
My laptop is the only computer that works in this house! I have 4 computers and ever since the Cable guy came in a month ago to change my modem / service to broadband (with the new company) none of the other computers are working (internet-wise)… I have them networked together with linksys. I tried talking to tech suppport (like talking to a brick wall)… It’s a mess. The last time I called they gave me a ‘free’ month.
Your laptop works? That’s weird. That means the router’s working. Unless your other (desktop) computers are not networked thru a wireless router. Hey, maybe your service only covers access by 1 computer, and to put more computers online, you have to pay more $? I dunno.
when you reset the router, you probably reset the login info for your DSL. you need to reconfigure your router, yo.
if you don’t have directions on how to do that, i can probably help you along.
*gasp!* Really? THANK YOU! I’ll try anything! I’m not gonna be home tonite cuz I have a late yoga class (the first one!) but whenever you have free time, let me know! I’ll even try Japanese shabu shabu with an open mind to see how it differs from Chinese hot pot. (I hope it differs like you said, cuz I don’t like Chinese hot pot.)
Yeah my laptop works… hell, I COULD be stealing internet from my neighbors’.. this laptop has some internal card that might pick up a neighbor but I don’t think so.. I’m pretty sure it’s MINE. I have no idea why the other computers don’t work. I know normally you would have to pay for all of your computers to hook up to the internet.. but not when you link them with a wireless linksys thingie… which all of these computers WERE linked and working until TIME WARNER / BRIGHTHOUSE dorks took over.
ok, i’ll try calling you tonight and maybe we can get a handle on this.
things you’ll need:
ISP username/password (if applicable)
Is this setup the same setup that your computer automatically walks you thru when you first install the router? Cuz I already did that.
