I was standing in the shower this morning sudsing up, and then I suddenly found myself staring at the bar of soap in my hand with awe.
Bar soap is so neato. It’s this wad of semi-solid stuff that, with just a little water, lathers up into bubbles that cleanse you, and then the slippery bubbly film just simply rinses clean away. And the bar doesn’t dissolve completely, only what you need, which you get by rubbing the bar on your skin, and the bar’s so smooth that this rubbing doesn’t even hurt! When you’re done with it for the day (or half-day, depending on your hygiene habits), you simply put the bar aside and it’ll dry off and resolidify, all by itself. You can leave it there, exposed for days, and it doesn’t evaporate, doesn’t harden into something unuseable next time. Plus it smells good, too!
I wish I could’ve seen people’s faces and heard their impressed comments at the advent of bar soap. “You mean we don’t have to bring a rock with us to pound soaproot anymore for some suds? YAY!”
I will never look at soap the same again. Soap bars are a miraculous thing!
Are you MOCKING me? Haha!
You’re not even going to give credit by linkage to the soap you use? I have lever2000, but mostly I use the liquid silk soap.
I’m not that impressed by liquid soap. It seems less of an accomplishment to me to have some plastic bottle holding liquid, than to have a phase-changing solid-to-liquid-to-solid soap.
As for the soap I use, I’m not sure what it is. I’ve rubbed off the carved logo. But all bar soaps are pretty neato. 😉
I’m not a big fan of bar soap, especially if others use it. I like my Dial body wash that I squirt on my scrubby. I’m glad you like your neato soap though!! The main thing is we are ALL squeaky clean!!
Oh yeah, the liquid soaps ARE better when you have to share. That’s why the gym showers have liquid soap dispensers. However, to quote “Friends” in an episode where Chandler finds out Joey had been using his toothbrush:
Joey: Why is it not okay to share toothbrushes but it’s okay to use the same soap?!
Chandler: [incredulous] Because! Soap is SOAP! It’s self-cleaning!
On the other hand, it’s pretty gross to reach for the bar of soap and then see that there’s a little black curly hair embedded in it, and you’re blonde.
*gag* I was listening to a radio show a couple weeks ago and this was the exact topic.. soap bars. They were mainly talking about visiting other’s homes; do they bring their own soap? do they request a new bar of soap? They polled several people on using someone else’s bar soap. It was interesting but predictable.
I have both in my shower. BUT.. I do “collect” mini soaps from hotels to put out for guests. Who knew when staying at Hotel Jordan that you’d get soap from Gran Melia resort in Cancun? Ha!
Oh hey.. an idea just popped in my head.. I must blog about it.
Hmm. I just presume people bring their own soap products, but I do have soaps in the guest bath that just stays in there guest to guest to guest. Come to think of it, that IS pretty gross. For the guest. But it’s soap! It’s self-cleaning!
I travel with my own soaps.
you aren’t doing the friends quote justice!!
JOEY: Hey, why can’t we use the same toothbrush, but we can use the same soap?
CHANDLER: Because soap is soap. It’s self-cleaning.
JOEY: Alright, well next time you take a shower, think about the last thing I wash and the first thing you wash.
HAHAHA…so true. i wash my face first and my butt last! but i use liquid soap so any visitors are safe from butt germs. also, when visiting other people’s houses i always bring my own soaps unless it’s a really really really good friend that won’t mind sharing. however even though i bring my own stuff, i always notice when a bathroom has been stocked with mini shampoos, soaps, and lotions for friends.
Wilco – what’d you do, LOOK IT UP?! If not, I’m super duper mega impressed. (I don’t know why I have this whole dork theme going on this post. It started with the “neato.”) Besides, my point was the self-cleaning part, not the gross punchline Joey delivers afterwards. But it’s never a bad thing to have extra Friends-related stuff to read, however! Thanks!
Mel – I don’t wash from the top-down, I wash from the left-to-right.
left to right…. hahahha!!
I talked to Mr. W over lunch. He said he read this soap post (that’s just fun to SAY!) to his coworker, and the coworker said my brain works like it’s on crack.
Yeah? Well, how would SHE know?! Ptthhh!
I told him that I just appreciate the little things in life that others take for granted, and sometimes when you don’t see a silver lining in a cloud, you can draw your own.
haha, you guys are hilarious!
thanks! we try.
Maybe you should get some Zaino bar soap. I bet it would smell pretty good too! But I guess your showers will be longer because you have to do 3 coats…. with the spray in between! But when you’re done you’ll be super clean and shiny!
Then you can go around telling people how smooth you are, but not to touch you or else they’d get fingerprints on you.
… And if you sit with a group of people, you need to pick the seat furthest away from anyone so you don’t get any elbow dings.
sounds great, except that girls don’t like to be shiny. hence the powders and anti-shine serums.
You know, I anticipated you were going to say that. Right before I hit post, I was going to remove the part about being shiny because I thought, “If I don’t remove it, Cindy is going to respond by saying girls don’t like to be shiny, thats why they use powder”.
But I figured I’ll leave it in and see if I was right. I was!! woot! 🙂
James, you can’t zaino us anyway because that would mean we were ‘good to go’ for months. Ewwww. You only need zaino’d like every 6 months, right?
WE could try it out on DoDo first though.. see how shiny he gets.
Sorry Dodo.. Auntie Jordan is up late…
Who knew a post about soap would have 20+ comments!!! lol
Hahahaha Jordan you are too funny! 🙂 And I guess that’s true, you would be good to go for 6 months if you were Zaino’d. At least you would smell nice afterwards!
Poor DoDo, he always gets experimented on first!
And when are you posting your soap blog???
YEAH!!!
