I’ve been missing my long hair. Remember these photos?
My hair now’s finally just long enough to tie up in a ponytail so that my neck and face can breathe at the gym, and for some reason it seems to be growing excruciatingly slowly this time. I miss my long hair, cuz it’s so much lower maintenance. But today, Mr. W bought some hair dye for himself (he likes to play with hair color), and in the dye aisle, I remembered all the stuff I used to do to my own hair with these products. I wanna play, too! I want to highlight it again, but in order for that to look the way I want, I need to cut my hair another 2 inches. Oh, what to do? I think I’m gonna cut it again. Hopefully it’ll be long enough to tie back in time for Mike & Christi’s Hawaii wedding. I don’t wanna snorkel and swim with hair floating all around my mask.
Why do you have to cut your hair to highlight it?? I like your hair better long, but you’re still look great with short hair. I think I’d smother at the gym if I couldn’t pull it back. People who wear sweatshirts at the gym kill me!! I know sweating is great but dude wear some shorts and a t-shirt!
I have to cut my hair because the bottom 2/5 still has my old dye in it, so it’s a lighter color. If I highlight streaks into it, it’d look really weird. Also, because I do the streaks myself, it’s harder to keep it straight and even down a long length of hair than it is down a shorter length. I also think long hair doesn’t look as good highlighted as shorter hair with a layer cut, cuz the difference in tones brings out the layers and makes your hair look fuller.
Sweats and sweatshirts at the gym make me hot just to look at it, but what’s worse are those people who bundle up in silver metallic thermal jumpsuits, I think they’re called sauna suits; it’s like you’re roasting turkey or something.
I don’t think anyone wears those turkey suits at our YMCA. I’d love to see a picture of that though!!
I’ll get my cameraphone the next time I see one. 🙂
they’re only asking for trouble when they exercise in those things (dehydration, electrolyte loss) … ask Martin Lawrence 🙂
I think you look great either way! Why don’t you dye it your natural color to even out your old highlight, and then put the new hightlights in. That way you don’t have to cut it.
Hey, you friend Brad is HOT! 🙂
Jordan – I don’t get the Martin Lawrence reference. Did he pass out wearing one of those things in real life, or was it a role he played in a movie?
Vanessa – Hmm. Can I do that? Highlight over a dye? And haha, you and Asian guys. There are a lot of photos of Brad, and in some of them, he’s half-nekkid! Just do a search for “brad” in the right bar search field. 😉
O-la-la! 🙂
Martin Lawrence gained a lot of poundage several years ago… he was then called up to do a movie. He was overweight and wanted to lose it quick before he showed up on set… so he wrapped himself in cellophane and put on one of those body suit things and went jogging.. he passed out and apparently almost died. He was in a coma and had 107 degree temp.. here’s the story:

you could always shave your head and start new… ask britney!
Sorry got caught up in looking for the pix that I didn’t answer your question. Yes, you can add highlights after coloring your hair. The only thing is you will need to use strong highlight solution, like one with hydrogen peroxide and put heat on it (blow dryer). That will help lift the color. We used to do it all the time in my previous company.
And if you want super light highlights, then you might need to do a two step process where you bleach your streaks and then deposit you desire highlight color. Same eapplies for low lights. I had to do that when I put purple low-lights in my hair. It looked super cool in sun. Oh, and Farouk Systems has a line that lifts and deposits in one step, but I think they only have violet, red-red and and red-violet available.
OMG, that sounds way complicated. I’m just gonna cut and highlight. 🙂
Or you can do a cap. That’s where you pt a shower cap looking thing with wholes on it, tread your hair through and depoist color or add highlight. That is super easy! Or just treat yourself to a salon and have them do it.
I can’t! I gotta save moolah for China! I’ll probably get there and realize I can’t buy anything cuz I can’t carry it home. Haha.
