I know it’s a negative Asian stereotype to say we squat, but here are some photos I discovered in Mr. W’s laptop alone…
At a park local to my work, one lunchtime, July 2006:
In San Simeon, July 2006:
Around San Simeon Pines Lodge, July 2006:
more beachside later that day:
At the Huntington Library & Botanical Gardens, hunting for turtles, October 2006:
In Hawaii, a cliffhanger squat from behind, November 2006:
WHY are there so many photos of me squatting?!
At least I’m not *really* squatting here:
Here’s what I look like when I’m NOT squatting:
Just thought this was funny cuz Mr. W handed a guy (brotha’ from Philly, early 20s, on vacay in Oahu) the camera so he can take a photo of US in front of Diamondhead. Here’s what he took:
You all know about my hidden captions, right?
You do seem to spend a lot of time ummm close to the ground.
While scrolling through the pics, reading the captions, I was going to say the same thing. It’s probably good exercise though. Your thighs looks so smooth…to quote Rodney Carrington, look like someone took a bag of nickles and hit them.
Do you date the headless horseman? I wonder where his face went for that picture?
Cop-A-Squat girl.
Bat – I know! I’d just realized that! And this is all within 5 months’ time, too! Maybe I’m meant to stay close to the ground. That’s why I’m so short.
Flat Coke – Squats ARE good exercise, and I do them at the gym, but they say having your knees bent all the way bearing weight (where the back of your thighs touch the back of your calves) is bad for your knees. So hopefully I’m not doing joint damage by all the recreational squatting. haha. Thighs smooth? I never thought about that. Thanks! But I don’t understand the bag of nickels metaphor. I’m just picturing a jangling bag of coins and someone beating it with a big stick, like a pinata.
A bag of nickles would make “cottage cheese” indentions in the back of the thighs….
I like the 2nd one the best.. don’t we all squat to get a close up of something though? it’d be different if you were squatting and everyone else around you is standing or sitting.. haha
There is SOOOoooo much room for Photoshop opportunity here!!! :D.
That’s a lot of squatting! It IS a good exercise. The first time I did them awhile ago I could squat the bar and it would drain me so much that i’d be light headed / weak for the next hour or so even though I could do plenty weight on the leg press.
But after doing them for awhile I guess my legs got used to them and i can handle a lot more weight without feeling lightheaded anymore.
How much weight do you squat? I’m only at 70 lbs and I can only do it 10 x without a break! Then I can only do one more rep of that and I’m KA-PUT!
The highest set I’ve done is 125 10x, then 135 8x, then finish off with 145 lbs 8x.
I still remember a little over a year ago doing just 45 lbs when I started and being kaput after 3 sets of 10x of those!
Whew I don’t feel bad now. I thought I was a wimpy little girl. Do you squat 1/2 way or all the way to the floor (as in Cindy’s pics)?
You NEVER squat all the way to the floor! If you squat with the mirror to one side, check to make sure your knees form a 90-degree angle. No less.
Down to about 90 degrees. I go as far down as i can while keeping my back in the right posture. I can feel the point at which i’d have my back feel a little of the weight, so i stop before that. I tend to worry about this more now as the weights are getting heavier.
I dont think I would go too far below 90 degs but i’ve seen others do so. I’m not sure if thats good or bad.
well, maybe 90-degrees is less of an accurate description than the rule of thumb that your knees shouldn’t bend forward past your toes.
You crack me up, Cindy!
