Just when you think it’s over…
This afternoon my supervisor came up to my department and pulled me out of my trial to have a discussion in the back hallway about the trainee. He wanted to know what I was implying on the phone to him yesterday. I told him in detail (minus the part about her email with another clerk about my being “rude”, as that’s hearsay anyway) what transpired between us in the first morning she was in here, but was clear that she more than made up for it in the next day and a half, proving to me that she’ll be fine as Judicial Assistant/Courtroom Clerk. I turned in my training report, he looked it over and noted my backhanded compliments. I told him that I had no problem telling him about our tiff off the record, but that I didn’t want it to come up in our meeting with the trainee on Friday and I don’t want it to negatively impact their assessment of her skills.
A few minutes ago, the trainee popped into my courtroom and handed me a small white envelope with my name on it. I opened it and it was a cute thank-you card that even matched my suit today. She wrote:
Cindy
Thank you for my experience in Dept. E. I really appreciate all you did for me and for the information/handouts you gave me. I know we didn’t start off on the right foot, but I’m glad we worked it out and I got the chance to sit in with you.
[trainee]
Now I feel like a shithead for even writing the backhanded compliments in her evaluation! And I already turned it in! Waaaahhh!!
don’t you hate that…
well, she WAS rude on the first training day.
Maybe she went home and thought, “oh crap, she’s going to write a report on me… I better suck up and do some work!”
I don’t think your comments sounded that bad. I wouldn’t worry about it. I’m sure she is grateful that you were tough on her.
I know you were tough because I know how I am when I’m training someone….
Ok time to come up for some air! Yikes! aHhhhhhh you wussed out on your trainee’s report! She gave you a ton of attitude on day 1 and I didn’t see anything reflecting that.
Well, maybe at least she learned her lesson though.
Hey halloween is almost here! When are you going to dress Dodo up as happy bunny????
Awkward moment!!!
Nonetheless, you did what you needed to do in a tackful manner!
I can totally picture you with your pouting face when you wrote “Waaahhhh!!!”
AND… HAPPY BUNNY costume?!?! Do they have those? If so, I say do it, do it, do it!
she was rude the first day. nothing changes that. sure, she can apologize and do the decent thing, but that doesn’t change how she behaved.
maybe only save up on one day’s worth of dodo’s doodoo instead of two.
Jordan – I was thinking that, too, which is why I also felt bad I turned in my written assessment of her before she could guilt me more.
Erin – We’ll see. We’re meeting later today with her. If she gives me a piece of her mind later, I’ll let you guys know. (Never offend bloggers. Haha.)
James – It wasn’t like there was a part that asked me to rate her attitude! I did tell my supervisor about it, tho. I haven’t seen any Happy Bunny costumes. But Dodo does have a certain snotty disdainful look. (Unintentional, cuz he’s the sweetest cat ever.)
Vanessa – If I dress up Dodo, who will know? Are you gonna show your cats off to anybody? Actually, your cats sit in front of the window and watch people. They’d be your Halloween window decorations.
Wilco – So in your opinion, once someone steps in Dodo doodoo, they will forever have Dodo doodoo stains, and no amount of scraping will clean off the stench? *making mental note never to piss off Wilco*
