(This is a ranting post. Expect me to spew. Sensitive viewers need not view. If you’re viewing, you implicitly agree to indulge my freedom of expression and my need for release.)
I’m off to a pretty crappy week. Yesterday morning, I found that my bedroom ceiling was leaking again at both prior spots, and pretty severely, too. A punchbowl was almost completely full, and the continuous drops bounced off the collected water in the bowl, splashing water all around the bowl so that the carpet’s wet all surrounding the bowl. While soaking up the carpet water with paper towels, I had to keep pushing Dodo away from the bowl where he wants to take a taste. That cat’ll drink water from anywhere. I switched the bowl with a deep plastic bucket that shouldn’t splash as much, dumped the bowl’s yellow water into the toilet, locked Dodo out of my bedroom, and took my morning shower. Apparently, during my shower, Dodo decided it’d be really cute if he vomited all over my purse. This I found as I was rushing out the door to work, and had to clean up the purse and carpet before leaving, which made me even later than usual to work. The rain (9 days in a row in LA, news reports said — CA is now out of its drought and has received enough rain to supply the rest of 2008) made a slow drive, and each additional wet day delays repair of my roof/ceiling more. Oh, and there’s now a weird smell in my bedroom. Not the dank wet smell that came when the leak first started weeks ago, this one reminds me of the awful stench in the air for weeks during a summer of consecutive wildfires about 10 years ago, when ashes floated in the air like snowflakes. Maybe I have a partially incinerated dead body hidden in the crawlspace between my ceiling and roof, and now that my ceiling is falling apart, I can smell him.
Today, I was able to get to work without much of a hitch, but then I fell into my emotional dark place. I got into a quibble with Mr. W about his position on his ex situation (by “ex situation” I mean about his ex-wife with her hand so far in his pocket that her hand is actually deeply embedded in his ass, and by “his position” I mean about his willingness to leave her hand in there because he fears the potential financial burden and pain of a forced removal). And then I hated myself because this shouldn’t even be my problem and yet it’s invading my life through him, his anger about his situation, and his financial restrictions because of it. I worked through lunch for the 2nd day in a row (not having hit the gym in a long time) due to some drama involving an Orange County criminal case that was transferred to us, and got an email reminder to pay my upcoming credit card bill. After paying online and seeing how broke I have become very recently, now I’m even more angry.
I keep coming back to picking up a second job as a solution. Remember that bartending fancy? Playing with liquids is something I’ve always enjoyed, and it’ll distract me from my mental stress. The extra money will help out a lot, which will hopefully ease some of my current bitterness. Mr. W, however, is still against my doing it.
my day is just blah too. i’ll write about it in a sec. the one silver lining i see for u is that u’ll be outta the condo soon at least. i’m sorry about the rest. *hug*
That presents a whole other problem. To get out of the current house, I need to be able to rent it out. It’s not rentable while the roof’s leaking and the ceiling’s dripping. It’s gonna get worse (costlier) before it gets better.
Thanks for the hug.
what a rotten start, um…it can only get better? hope it stops raining!
hey, it could be minus 10 degrees (as a high here)…so, at least not everything is frozen over, after the rain
try to keep your chin up Cindy! and the offer is still on the table (*vent*) ha
It stopped raining today, and it’s supposed to stay dry until Saturday (woohoo, 3 whole days.) so I’ve already called my 2nd roof estimate guy who canceled last week to see about doing his eatimate in the next day or so. He was at a seminar, said he’ll call me back to schedule it.
Thanks for the offer to hear me rant, but I think doing it on here made me feel better. For now.
nice – that it will be dry! will that give enough time to get the roof fixed or at least patched? ….
well, you know the # 🙂
No, 3 days isn’t enough time for anything but an estimate. The roof will take about 4 days to replace and it can’t be done while it’s wet. I don’t know how the ceiling repairs will go, whether it can be done even if it’s raining outside as long as the roof’s fixed. I guess the silver lining on this is that it gives my association extra time to collect the $ for my roof repair.
You’ll be okay! Give me a call to chat anytime!
oh I was going to mention…Target has a booklet ‘Bartender for Dummies’ – for $1! …I’m thinking of investing in one…:)
tell Mr W – that his drinks would always be on the house, ha ha
Vicky – thanks for the faith and the offer.
k – I want a class that will give me a certification in the end for an easy hire. I keep running into coworkers/people who have had bartending experience and highly recommend it, saying the money’s great and it was a lot of fun.
Do you have your bartender license? Not that it’s hard to get, just wondering if you’ll have to pay for a class to get certified. I hear it’s SUPER great money, esp if you’re good. I still think I’d like playing with panties at Vicktoria’s Secret better. ha
Sorry about the roof, and your cat puking on your purse. I hope your week gets better.
mmm…I have a friend who went to bartending school and said it was blast! But I also know several bartenders who told me it’s a joke, to go to those schools?… either way, don’t discount it! too bad you aren’t in the area, or I’m not there…we’d have a blast in school together!! ha… 🙂
did you secure the 2nd appt’t for the estimate?
Flat Coke – yeah, the classes that end with a certification cost some money, but not much. Like $45. I spend that much on dinner.
Ya know, my problems today sound silly the way you put it. 🙂
k – yup, the 2nd estimate apptmt’s Thursday evening. hope it doesn’t get rained out AGAIN.
Hey I wonder if CES has bartending schools. It’s somehow connecxted to my school and they gave me $500.00 towards tution and I have some left over… that means they would pay for the class. We should look into it! I hear that you mix the drinks with colored water though, no real drinks in class 🙁
And what’s up with both our cats??? Mine puked twice today. I was running late, so will have to clean it when I get home. GROSS!
if CES is where we took classes in Fullerton, then yes, they do have bartending classes. that was the 1st place I looked. I’m fine playing w/colored water! I don’t care. I don’t drink that much anyway. My only concern is that after I’m certified, I don’t wanna be stuck in a permanent job, I just kinda wanna freelance. Don’t know if that’s possible.
I hope your cat feels better.
