At my parents’ house yesterday, I sat at the baby grand and tried to compose a piano accompaniment to one of Daughter’s songs, but soon found that I can’t hear her song in my head when I’m playing; the piano drowns her out. It’d be easier if I had sheet music for her song to follow, but she doesn’t write things down. I’m not even sure that she knows how. So I put that project aside and picked up some old music written by the boys who really knew how. The classical composer Muzio Clementi flowed the most naturally through me that day, and I fell in love with his Sonatinas again, re-exploring them one by one. I mostly sight-read but would love to really familiarize myself with them again, play them as I used to. As I used to — when was that? I looked closely at old notations and dates. 1986. Good lord, I aced exams, recitals and competitions playing this stuff when I was ten and am now struggling through the trills and turns and hitting the right key without looking down?! =P
I need to get a piano. But first I’d need a bigger house.
You could always rearrange stuff in the house or get rid of some stuff to make room 🙂 And you might fine a decent one on Craigslist. Jay and I have been getting steals on that thing recently for our future house. You should see our current house jam packed with stuff. We decided to stop shopping until we get a house. LOL. Oh… you could even sell some of your stuff on Craigslist and use that money for a piano!!!
My mom has been trying to unload the baby grand (shown in the photo) on me for YEARS. I’ve just never had room for it. Maybe I can get rid of the current formal dining room furniture and stick it in the dining room. I can imagine how loud that piano would be in that house of tile floors, tho.
HMM, take out the dining room table? haha
I love your baby grand. I would not have room for one either. I barely have room for my standard console. It makes you feel good to sit down and play. I wish I could read music better, I do better playing by ear, or memorizing the notes.
Jordan – the dining table is now back in the breakfast nook area. The dining room has become a second living room/den area. You need to come visit again!
Flat Coke – I don’t even have room for the upright. I suck at memorization, so if you can pick up something by ear and then memorize it, you’re ahead of me on that!
Well, I could never play classical music so I’m envious of your skills. You inspired me to go play for about 30 minutes last night. Thank you. It was good therapy.
Never say never. Start small. 🙂 Sounds like you did last nite, good job! My old piano teacher used to say that a girl who’s had classical piano training just carries herself differently. Classier.

Ok so everytime you change your furniture around, I’ll come visit
