I hadn’t had morning sickness in quite a few days, and it was making me concerned. Andrae came by to visit on Saturday as he was in town for some karate practice, and we introduced him to The Counter. (He was blown away by the burger joint.) That late lunch ended up being my first meal, and despite sleeping through breakfast, I didn’t feel sick. I carbo-loaded at lunch with a veggie burger, parmesan fries (SO amazing) and a peanut butter shake, and it got gaggy after I’d eaten it. But not morning-sickness gaggy. I had a baked potato with butter and mayo (a childhood favorite, the only time I’d eat mayo) for dinner. Sunday, we got up and hit the road for the Renaissance Faire, thinking we’d stop for purse-sized snacks on the way, but didn’t. I didn’t eat until late lunch time again, when I shared an incredible “cottage meat pie” with Mr. W (pieces of steak and veggies) and had a spanikopita at another booth (meh, greasy). Hubby had a steak gyro. For dinner I steamed some pork, leek and black pepper dumplings, organic broccoli from Maggie’s garden, and had a slice of cheese toast.
So it looks like much of the meat aversion is gone AND I’m not sick? Uh-oh. I started thinking back. My first Pilates class after I was cleared to exercise did focus pretty intensely on core and ab stuff. Did I accidentally kill the kid last Wednesday in Pilates? I didn’t cramp or spot, though. My morning sickness, a response to the hormone hCG, shouldn’t be going away until the beginning of my 2nd trimester, which is still 7 or so weeks away!
I started responding to people’s inquires of “How’re you feeling?” with explanations of how abnormally and disconcertingly fine I felt. They all pretty much told me not to worry, they’re sure Riley is fine. My court reporter told me she ran a 10K 4 months pregnant and was fine, and that if the pregnancy is healthy, a little exercise that my body’s already accustomed to doing isn’t going to be a problem. Rebecca and I were exchanging an email string discussing some business, and she asked how I was feeling. I wrote to her the same thing. She laughed, called me silly, and said she still has a feeling of fullness when she thinks of me so she’s sure I’m still pregnant, and that my Wednesday Pilates can not kill a child.
So what happens when one complains about a good thing too much? “Oh, you wanna feel sick? Here ya go.” Right in the middle of my gymming yesterday, after a set of crunches, the nauseating feeling came back. It could have been triggered by the supine and rocking position, since pregnancy causes the muscle between the stomach and esophagus to relax, making puking a more common response to gravitational shifts (among other things). But still, the feeling came and didn’t go until I’d fallen asleep. Late night, it became an acid reflux sensation.
Well, I feel fine today so far. If the pregnancy nausea lessened this dramatically, maybe I still will be lucky with just 3 weeks of morning sickness through my pregnancy. By the way, there are some studies that link severe morning sickness with having a girl. Something about a conflict or reaction of hormones between mother and child.
I didn’t have much problem with morning sickness, and it didn’t set in until after 6 weeks. I felt nauseous mostly when I’m tired and slightly hungry.
i meant, “was”
i have heard similar studies (more sickness = girl, due to more estrogen in your body), but it really varies mom to mom, pregnancy to pregnancy. i know moms of girls who had no morning sickness and moms of boys who puked at LEAST twice a day into their 9th month.
just consider yourself lucky, and stop rubbing it in to all of the moms out there who suffered through their entire pregnancies π
oh, and ditto what idlehouse said. i also felt nauseated when i was hungry. easy solution is just to eat all the time π
Did you type anything after parmesan fries? *drooling on mac* π
idlehouse – mine kicked in at about 6 weeks, too. I’ve been tired and/or hungry in the past few days and been just tired/hungry, not sick. This must mean I’m having a boy, haha.
flip flop – When I saw Sabrina after Abby was born, I noted her svelte figure so soon after her baby. She said it was hard to gain a lot of weight when she couldn’t keep food down throughout her entire pregnancy. I also emailed my mom and asked her if she was nauseated while pregnant with me, and she said she was pretty sick throughout. My cousin, however, had what she called an easy uneventful pregnancy with the only major symptom being fatigue, and she had a girl. So I’ll just count myself lucky. π
Flat Coke – if The Counter ever opens up in your neck of the woods, you’ll have to give them a visit!
I was horribly sick when preggo with Ben. And terribly sick when preggo with Kacie. lol. go figure. I guess I’m just the sicko type. But got two great kids, so it was sooo worth it.:-D
How was the Broccoli?
My rule-don’t look a gift horse in the mouth. Enjoy your nonsick days. Feeling good is never a symptom of problems. Only a symptom of the universe giving you a break. funny story-I once had a client fire me because he didn’t believe his divorce attorney should have morning sickness. It wasn’t professional. I told him I understood why his wife left him. (I know-but it felt good to say-and I was hormonal)
were you sick throughout the entirety of both pregnancies?
I have a new broccoli (and salad) aversion, so I couldn’t eat the broccoli, even tho I made it. I even had a hard time handling it and smelling it. π But Mr. W raved about how this was the best broccoli he’d ever had in his entire life, and he wouldn’t even put salt or seasoning on it. The stepkidlet came home during dinner and cleaned off what broccoli Mr. W didn’t already get to.
Good for you re the jerk ex-client. you should’ve kicked him in the shins and told him it’s unprofessional of him to cry.
I’m sure your aversion is from the smell. Strong smells are really tough to take. Yeah-Mr. W is right. It is the best. It’s really peppery. Yum Yum.
With Ben I had morning sickness for 5 months and heartburn for 5 months. One month I had both- it was a challenge. But I still managed to put on 38 lbs. Of course the first 5 were just to keep me from loosing the baby because I was soooo darn skinny after law school. And Every gave me heart burn-even water. But it really wasn’t that bad…just uncomfortable and inconvenient. Nothing I couldn’t handle
Smell aversion — I got back from chambers and re-entered the courtroom last week, and there was this gawd-awful rancid smell. I tried to just sit thru it but it was so bad I got nauseated. I finally turned to the courtroom assistant and said, “Did you spray something?”
She said, “Just my foot stuff.”
I had to leave the courtroom.
:-/
You just reminded me of a reaction I had. “Georgio” was THE perfume when I was preggo. I stopped wearing perfume. Well I got into an elevator here in Norwalk on my way to a hearing and someone had Georgio on. I barely made it to the bathroom in time to barf. Needless to say I threw my bottle out.
Was that when you were pregnant?
Hi there! I could have sworn Iβve been to your blog before but after browsing through many of the posts I realized itβs new to me. Anyhow, Iβm definitely pleased I stumbled upon it and Iβll be book-marking it and checking back frequently!
