I just got back from checking up on my gym trainee. She’s sore in all the right spots — upper hamstrings, chest under the armpits, middle back — and excited about hitting the gym again. Yay! The only thing is that for my personal benefit, I can’t babysit her in weights daily, or I would never get a good workout in. So I told her today I’ll have her do straight cardio, straight fatburn. She was very agreeable. I think that’s a good plan for her anyway, because I don’t want to burn her body out and having a rest day in between weight-lifting days allows me to hit all the major muscle groups each time we do weights. It’s also optimal for body fat burn. She needs to do a lot of cardio and some toning to help bring the metabolism up.
Hey expert, how much time should we invest per work out in a day?
Depends on what your goal is. The minimum you should do for any benefit is 80 minutes of cardio a week. Doing (at least) 20 mins of cardio a day kicks in endorphins and fat burn. So they recommend that every other day. Studies show that 80 minutes a week brings about mood elevation, general feelings of well-being, and a decrease of symptoms of depression.
sleeping is a cardio activity, right? i always have a mood elevation, general feeling of well-being, and a decrease of symptoms of depression after sleeping.
Hmm. By that token, you can get the benefit of 80 mins a week with 8 hours a night. What a deal! But yeah, you’re right, sleep plays an important role in physical and mental well-being. I’m not sleeping nearly enough. Maybe I need a new bed. (Or at least get in my current one once in awhile.)
