I’m gonna take belly dancing on Thursdays beginning in a few weeks. That’ll replace yoga (which Mr. W says he’s starting to hate). There are a few coworkers that took it together this past session and one of them has been on me about joining in. Vanessa and I have been saying we want to do that anyway. I hope Vanessa is able to make Thursdays with us, that’d be really fun! By next month, it’s gonna be weights, running, jujitsu and bellydancing. Don’t you guys wish you live closer to me? You could come, too! (I have no idea whom I’m talking to. *looking around* Uh…Jordan! *pointing*)
Speaking of running, I did 4 miles at lunch today. The heat almost lifted me away like a dirigible. My trainee did over 2 miles next to me. She’s now able to sustain a 5-min run. That’s really impressive.
Oh yeah. This Sunday, I was in the emergency room at like midnight and the nurse took my blood pressure. He said, “Your heart’s really good! You work out? Run a lot?” I looked over at the machine. My pulse was 55, which is lower than I’d ever seen it, it’s usually in the high 60s to low 70s. Unfortunately, my diastolic (or systolic, which ever one means the higher number) blood pressure was 134 or 136, I can’t remember which, and I asked him isn’t that kinda high? He said for my age, “high” would be 140. I said, “Isn’t it getting kinda close to that?” He said dismissively, “Eh, you’ve been up all night.”
Speaking of exercise and goals and stuff, I hear Hawaii is a great place to take surfing lessons; the water’s warm, the instructors give discounts to women, you’re learning with other beginners so you don’t have to feel stupid… so I may be crossing something new off my old goals list after all come October/November.
You know, I would totally do belly dancing. I am considering getting a navel piercing, so the belly dancing outfit would show that off perfectly. The exercise I get from it would definitely be beneficial… and then the ‘shows’ i could put on, would be a bonus (wink). Cindy we could always get a job on a cruise line.. I could be the nurse / belly dancer and you could be the cruise director / belly dancer. Just throwing out random thoughts.. oh and Diana.. you know with everyone going overboard on these cruises lately, they should have an attorney on board.
That’s so funny! Nurse/belly dancer; director/belly dancer; lawyer/belly dancer; cook/belly dancer; toilet sweeper/belly dancer. Did you guys talk to the cruise employees? What’s this about how they’re all overworked and underpaid and on contract forever so that they never see their family?
Yes (because I’m entirely way too nosy).. well, let’s just say I’m seriously inquisitive.. I WANT to know all sorts of things, so absolutely we talked to some of the ship employees. I can’t believe their pay!! And this 90 straight stuff? oh hell no. If and when they do get to see their family it’s for a few hours at port.. IF they leave port. I can’t imagine living on that ship for 90 days straight (or more in some cases)… it seems like fun (for a week).. after that, I want OFF! But yeah.. I think we could be belly dancers PART TIME for some cruise line… as long as we only work 2 hours a night and get to act like passengers the rest of the time.
There actually IS a cruise for belly dancers. I have the flyer. You have class/choreography with some instructors part of the day, and then there are performances in the evenings, and the rest of the time is yours. It’s a 4-day, 3-night cruise for like $500.
That’s if you want to learn belly dancing though, right? I want to WORK as one for a couple hours a night for some extra cash… tips and stuff.. maybe I’ll quit nursing.
hey, you gotta start somewhere! you can’t just get up onstage and randomly and unskillfully shake your bare ass and expect people to pay you! It’s not STRIPPING.
oh… well I thought I was going to take a class first.. then join the cruise line industry. and.. just WATCH me get up on stage all unskillfully. Hey.. do belly dancers have bare asses?
I’ll let you know whether I can get away with being bare under those sashes with the little bells and coins.
I just had surgery, and I kept on setting the machine off that monitors my pulse because my pulse was at 35 when I was sedated.
