I *just* got the vacation schedule!! I’ve been steadily falling in seniority since the day I got here, since everyone they transfer over has high seniority. I think it’s so unfair to pick vacation in order of County seniority; it should be position seniority. Cuz brand new baby clerks who are supposed to be MY relief clerks are picking vacation ahead of me, so that I’m still shackled to my desk while THEY’RE going on vacation, just because they started working for the County as, like, a janitor in 1960! Seriously, #1 on the seniority list started in 1968. And a new clerk who JUST transferred here this month and plopped on #2 in seniority has taken 11 WEEKS of vacation for this coming year. There’s virtually nothing left for the rest of us!
Luckily, I’ve got 2 other clerks who have been kind enough to ask what days I need off for Mike and Christi’s wedding, and they’ve taken it for me, expecting to drop it so that as long as I’m on the wait list, I’m gonna get it. And I’m #1 on the wait list for those weeks! Yay! And the weeks for China just happen to be open, too.
That is a weird system. Write yor HR Representative. It’s good thatyou have connections!
Except I JUST looked up Mike and Christi’s wedding date and I had remembered the date wrong! WAAAH!! The week they’re getting married has already been taken by other people, but I’m 1st on the wait list there, too. It’s just that these aren’t people who are doing this to drop days for me. :'(
I guess yo will not be feeling well that day and need to take a sick day 🙂
Yeah, I’m thinking that, too. Maybe I’ll come in in the morning, have something really bad for lunch, and have to go home due to food poisoning in the afternoon.
I just asked my lead tech this week how vacation worked at the new hospital. It’s first come first serve, no senority. WHOO HOO!!

China was already guaranteed to me by my supervisor, so I wasn’t concerned about that. But they’re letting 2 people off the week of the Hawaii wedding and both slots are taken. I’m 1st on the wait list, but I don’t think either are going to drop it.
Does that mean you won’t get to go? That’s just WRONG if that’s the case.
The wedding’s on a Saturday. I’m thinking I may have to miss the pre-wedding dinners and hanging out that week, maybe call in sick on Friday and be there in time for the Saturday wedding. I got the week after the wedding off, but my friends may be gone by that time. 🙁
