I’d expected my weight to go up a bit when I started hitting the weights again, but holy crapola, it went up almost 5 pounds this year! And I’ve been hitting the gym consistently, too. I am now terrified I’m gonna get into the next “tens” on the scale. That is simply NOT acceptable.Â
I assume what happened is that as I stopped working out, the weight didn’t go up significantly because more horrifically, my body was losing its heavier muscle and gaining lighter fat pounds. My inches increased without the scale budging much. Now that I’m putting the muscle back on, they’ll need more time to start burning off the new fat, so I’ll be heavier with the increased fat and increased muscle until the proportions tip over the other way, and then my fat percentage will drop more quickly.
I haven’t been eating poorly, so all I can think to do is increase my cardio.
I’m also clinging desperately to the hope that I’m just bloated right now due to “that time.” My boobs certainly feel tender, rounder and heavier. (Sorry for the TMI, but that’s my hormone litmus test: grabbing my boobs.) I hope the pounds will fall off the scale in another week or so.

i ate nearly 2 pounds of steak last night for dinner. i don’t think i could do 5, but my weight fluctuates that much in a day. =P
yea cardio is the way to go. i don’t bulk up w/ weights until i slim down via cardio.
Tennessee is number 6!!!
Well I’m doing cardio and no weights so I don’t know what will happen to me. Hopefully LOSE SOME BOOTY!!
wilco – I always tell myself that my fluctuations are cuz I ate that much poundage in food, or lost that much in going to the bathroom.
Having had a nice 8oz prime rib for dinner last nite (turns out I’m seriously anemic right now) and being stuffed to the gills, I have a new appreciation for your 2-lb steak dinner.
anny – I can’t slim down on cardio alone, it doesn’t do anything for me physically. I have to do a combination, or even straight hardcore weightlifting. I lost all that fat for the wedding by pushing myself into extreme weightlifting. I think very few women can get down to the results they want on just cardio, which is why you always see pudgy women in the aerobics room, but rarely any on the weight floor. Lucky for you, you just have your 3-5 pounds of vanity weight you play within. *sigh* One day…

Your cardio training on the elliptical does do SOME training on various leg muscles and butt muscles, so you should see some toning up on your lower half.
We eat pretty much anything deep fried. Ever heard of deep fried Oreos? Yep…that’s a favorite at the flea markets. My favorite sushi roll is deep fried, matter of fact. ha
Wow. You’d end up doing an inadvertent colon cleanse if you vacationed here with us.
What would I be eating? Health food? Veggies and fruits? I’d probably have to slap some flour on whatever you put in front of me and throw it in the deep fryer for a min.
I don’t know HOW you stay so hot.
FL is tied with AZ @ 38th fattest state. Not so bad I guess. But how do they really know this..
I think it’s based on what percentage of the population in the state is overweight, but I’m not sure how they collect their data.
