Mr. W and I celebrated the coming of November by enjoying our nice SoCal kayaking weather with Dwaine and Claudio.
I hadn’t seen Claudio in YEARS (10+, I’d say), and only recently reconnected with him through an online networking site. I’d always liked Claudio, but didn’t know him very well. He was just “Dwaine’s buddy Claudio.” The last time we saw each other was over a few games of paintball, so obviously nobody was sitting around having in-depth conversations. Over the years of hearing Dwaine’s me-and-Claudio stories, I felt like I’d somehow kept in vicarious contact with Claudio, so it was really fun to “hang out” with him online, cracking jokes and instigating gym challenges, until we could finally meet up in person. That brings us to Sunday, November 1.
The guys came over to our house, changed into swim gear, and we were off to the Lake. Claudio and I had planned to jog the mile there, and since Dwaine was excluded from the planning process, he didn’t have veto power. I heard he was a good sport and simply packed the proper gear for jogging and swimming. This was Dwaine’s second time kayaking, and he’d improved immensely from his first time.
So confident was he in his new kayaking abilities, that he had to balls to do this:
After arriving home, we sat in the backyard, had a couple of drinks (water for Dwaine and me; Coronas for Mr. W and Claudio), then set off for dinner at Chipotle.
“Did you guys shower before going in there?” Jordan had asked.
“Of course not, then we wouldn’t smell as athletic,” I’d answered. The day was a lot of fun regardless of how we smelled to everyone else.
Good times. We need to get together again soon!
“werd!”
Do you own your own kayak? Looks like such a fun day!!
It WAS a very hysterically laughing day.
Mr. W has a 2-man kayak in our garage, but the Lake has strict rules about using an outside watercraft. We’d have to get it insured (which I already did) and then register it at the Lake, and they put a water-sensitive sticker on it to make sure you have it quarantined for like 2 weeks to let all parasites/mussels, etc die off before you can let it touch the Lake water. Then you have to pay a monthly storage fee to store it there, otherwise we have to transport it from home each time (actually I’m not even sure they allow you to transport it from home everytime cuz they may make you do the quarantine thing all over again each time). So it’s easier for us to just pay the $3 to rent the Lake’s kayaks. Plus, I’m kinda used to the freedom of my own single-man kayak, not sure I can do the tandem thing.
Excellent recap! Good seeing ya after so long.
Thanks, and ditto! Of course nobody under the age of 30 knows what a ditto is anymore.
What an great day!! One of these day when I am not working two jobs, we will definitely have to go out and do they kayak and lake thing. Life’s been more then crazy on my end.
And you ran back? Ummm… we will walk when we go. LOL
Or drive 🙂
ohhh. i was gonna say ur camera’s looking awesome, but just saw that it’s claudio’s camera.
busykitty – we went again this past Sunday, and I drove there all by myself as Dwaine, Claudio and one of their female friends ran. And afterwards, the girl jumped in my car as the guys ran back.
anny – yup, and that camera’s about to be replaced with an upgrade, too. Dwaine said his splash grudge match is also known as “Sorry about your camera, Claudio!”
I thought you couldn’t do Sundays… but if you are available Sundays, that works perfectly because Jay has that day off. Let me know 🙂
I can do Sundays in the day. I visit the ‘rents in the evening. But they won’t be available the next couple of weekends, so I’m probably free then, altho we don’t know for sure what our plans are Thanksgiving weekend yet.
That’s good to know. I will let Jay know and maybe we can set something up the beginning of Dec before it gets too cold. Who am I kidding… we are in Cali and normally have sunny December weather. haha
